Schirato is well-rounded in the classroom as well as on the court and soccer pitch. "I have a 3.4 GPA and I take the most challeng- ing classes I can," Schi- rato said. "I like Current American Government and Economics because I'm in- terested in politics, how the government works and the economy." Outside of the classroom and sports, Schirato is also a member of DECA and the honor society. He said he's looked into colleges and has already applied to Western Washington University and Washington State Univer- sity. "Hopefully I'll get into one of them to pursue a four-year degree in maybe political science," he said. "I like WWU and WSU be- cause they are both state schools far enough away for me to be independent but close enough to come home for holidays." Though Schirato said he wishes he could play sports in college, he stated that isn't his goal. "Realistically, I don't think I can play in college," he said. "Overall, I'm not going to become a profes- sional athlete so [ need to go somewhere that'll offer me more future career op- tions." When he's not in school or playing sports, Schirato said he is just like any oth- er teenager. "I like to hang out with friends, just recreate out- side of doors in general," he added. "I like rock climb- ing, white water rafting, anything of that nature. I like to be active." Schirato stated he's hap- py to be playing basketball again. "I'm looking forward to getting some wins." he add- ed. :Athlete at a:Glance Name: Austi~"Mookie" Schi~ato SehooI: SheltO~ tIigh School Grade:Senior Winte~:~port: Boys*basketball GPA: 3~4 Other s#0rt: soccer %.~ ~, .~..,~;~. nter is Here!
