Work Center above Camp Grisdale. Both agreed
the new, modern facilities were a far cry from
the days when they logged in the area.
The new facilities replace build-
Ings which had been converted
from dwellings for the crew facil-
ities.
The work center closed down
this week for the winter, but, next
sprlngr when Fez'eat Service em-
ployees report back there, they
will have the new facilities to
look forward to.
I During part of the year, the
number of men at the work cen-
sale work on timber conducted and
an engineering crew doing road
work.
Presiding over the kitchen in the
cook house is Isa McDonald, who
has been the cook at the work cen-
ter for a number of years.
The new buildings were built to
replace facilities erected when the
center was opened to handle the
work on the west end of the Shel-
ton Ranger District.
The new crew houses were oc-
cupied in July of this year and
the new cook house in September.
During the short program which
followed the dinner, Laney was
pre.nented with a 10-pin and cer-
fificate for 10 years with the For-
est ~elwiee. The presentation Was
made by Len Flower, Ranger for
the Shelton District.
Bill Bryant, retired ranger, mid
Bud Puhn, rctired Simpson Tim-
ber Company official, spoke of the
days when logging in that area
was starting.

of Richfield Oil Co. to furnish the
county with Gasoline and Gott Oil
Co. to furnish diesel fuel for the
county for the coming year.

John E. Dec,r, Superintendent
of Olympic National park, passed
away December 2 following a long
illness.
He was born in Mount Vernon,
Indiana, November 10, 1901. He
attended the University of Wis-
consin, receiving an A. B. degree
in 1924 and an Nf. A. degree in
1926, his major work .being in
geology and education. He cort-
ttnued graduate work for one year
at Pennsylvania State College.
From 1927 to 1931 he was he~d
of the Department of Geology at
North Dakota Agricultural Col-
lege. During the summers of 19-
21-30 he was employed as a
geologist for the Wisconsin Geo-
logical and Natural History Sur-
vey doing field wo~k in con-
nection With the state highway
program.
He is survived by his wife, two
daughters, two grand~liildren, ami
two sisters.

Auditorium Dec. 10. The choir's appearance here
