Collision with semi kills Shelton driver An icy road is believed to have contributed to a two—vehicle head-on collision Dec. 1 between a semitractor- trailer and a small car. The driver of the small car was killed. . Jami C. Hall, 51, of Shelton, was the sole occupant of her car. The collision occurred at the in- tersection of West Shelton Matlock and West Stoner roads at 9:24 a.m., according to Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Colbenson. The road remained blocked at 10:45 a.m. because the semitrailer ' had turned on its side and lost its load of logs. Detours were in place while the logs were cleared off the road and the semitrailer was put back on its wheels. The final vehicle was removed around 5:40 p.m., allowing‘West Shel— ton Matlock Road to reopen to traffic. The death of the driver prompted Colbenson to emphasize the request of the Sheriff’s Office that the public not share images of such accidents on social media so that next of kin can be notified first. Driver killed after losing control on U.S. 101 William W. Weiss, 56, of the Skokomish Tribal Nation, died early in the morning Dec. 8 when the 1999 Acura he was driving left the road and struck a tree along U.S. Highway 101 at Purdy Canyon, just north of Shelton. The single-car crash occurred at . 2:01 a.m., according to the Washing- ton State Patrol. Neither Weiss nor his passenger, 49-year-old Sara Friedman, also of the Skokomish Tribal Nation, were wearing seatbelts. Friedman was uninjured and transported to Mason General Hospital as a precautionary measure, according the WSP report. The vehicle was totaled and im- pounded. Driver escapes car fire on state Route 300 A driver escaped a car fire without injury early Dec. 8 while westbound on state Route 300 near Sand Hill Road. North Mason Regional Fire Au— thority Engine 21 and Medic 21 were dispatched to the 1686 block of Route 300 around 6:35 a.m. where they found an SUV engulfed in flames. The driver pulled over when he saw smoke coming from under his seat. “He immediately pulled over on the side of the road and quickly got out of his car, leaving his cellphone, wallet and other belongings behind, just moments before the smoke turned into flames,” Lacey Newman, NMRFA emergency prevention specialist, said in an email to the Shelton—Mason County Journal. Firefighters were able to quickly secure the scene and extinguish the fire. 2-car collision blocks both lanes of U.S. 101 near Hoodsport A two-car injury collision Dec. 8 g blocked U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 329 north of Hoodsport, Washington State Patrol spokesperson Chelsea Hodgson reported on Twitter at 1:06 p.m. The Mason County Sheriffs Office joined the WSP on the scene. Both lanes of traffic were blocked, with law enforcement and fire and emergency services on the scene. The southbound lane of U.S. 101 reopened for alternating traffic around 2 p.m., and tow crews were en route to retrieve the involved vehicles.
