Change was a big factor in last
Thursday's Shelt on-Hoquiam
swim meet. The nation's smaller
oil reserves forced a cramped bus
ride to the Harbor for both the
junior high wrestling team and the
swim team, the scoring system
was revamped for this season, and
for the first time Shelton won its
season opener, a 94-76 win over
the Grizzlies.
Coming off a two-week
doctor-ordered ban from pool
workouts, sophomore Chris
Jackson led the team by winning
two events. Two other
sophomores won events for the
Highclimbers as this young team
got its season going.
Hoquiam got off to an early
lead by winning the first two
events, but then sophomore Joe
Simpson grabbed a first in the
200-yard individual medley and
Shelton picked up a third and a
fifth place finish to tie the meet
at 23-23.
The next event, the 50-yard
freestyle, was the beginning of the
end for Hoquiam as the Climbers
copped first, third and fourth,
and jumped to a 34-28 lead. Chris
Jackson won the event in 25.7

The Swedes had thinning in mind when they designed the M-51-S Jonsereds chain saw. The M-51-S is designed and built to Itend the
most rugged cutting conditions. Heavy duty ball bearings with specially impregnated chrome cylinders make the engine virtually inde-
structible. Safety features inc ude an anti-kick back guard and safety throttle to protect the operator from accidental injury. Fully
rubber shock mounted chassis prevents fatigue by keeping vibration away from the operator. Muffler dampens noile to the lowest level
in the industry. Jonsareds chain saws are duigned end engineered to allow the operator to cut longer, faster and
more easily with less noise and muscle fatigue at ~the end of the day. Try the M-51-S -- you can feel the difference.

Shelton sophomores
fall to Elma 66-63
The sophomore basketball
team lost its first game of the
season Monday at Lima. The
score was 63-66.
The leading scorers for
Shetton were Joe Baze with 15,
Mike P. Smith with 14, Randy
Bostrom with 12, Stan Kaszycki
with 1 I, Mel Morgan with 4, Chris
Palmer with 3, Steve Lindgren
with 2, Mike Drogmund with 1,
and Jay Zamzow with 1. Others
who played were Dodge Kerr,
Mike E. Smith, Lincoln Minor,
Sam Martin, Steve Hayworth,
Steve Slott, and Greg Parsons.
Mike P. Smith led the
sophomores with 7 rebounds,
while Mel Morgan stole the ball
eight times.
Coach Bill Brickert said he
was pleased with the game, even
though Shelton lost, becatase he
felt that the Shelton team did a
fine job offensively and
defensively, especially on zone
and man-to-man defense, and that
the team pressed its opponents
well.
Brickert said the main reason
he was pleased was that in order
for Lima to beat Shelton they had
to use two players off their
Jayvee basketball team. He also
added that it was legal to do that
according to the rule book.
The next game is here next
Monday against Hoquiam. Game
time is 5 p.m.
