A potluck noon luncheon
with the exchange of Christmas
gifts will be the feature of the
Ladies" Civic Club meeting
December 13 at the Union
Firehall.
Mrs. Max Dalton recently
underwent a serious spinal fusion.
Friends are happy to hear that she
is recuperating and will be home
soon.
Mr. William C. Buck passed
away Wednesday morning after a
long bout with terminal cancer.
The Hood Canal Bridge Club
met December 5 at Robin Hood,
and Mrs. Larry Scheeis won first
prize.

1 guess probably the best way
to start out would be to tell you
about our family. We have two
boys and two girls in stairstep
ages of 9, 10, 11 and 12. My
husband came to America in 1951
from his native land of Germany.
He is a naturalized citizen now,
and his job is a machinist at the
PSNS along with being in the
National Guard, having served
With the U.S. Army 16 years. So
he is very American and more
patriotic than most. He is also a
Beifair volunteer fireman, when
available.
l am pretty involved being a
homemaker, but belong to the
Belfair Fire Auxiliary, PeeWees,
bowl, and take German classes at
O.C. weekly. Coming from
Lewistown, Montana, to this
beautiful section of Washington
four years ago, really was a
change from being in cow country
(regardless of how the rumor is
that it is all sheep!!). We have
found the canal life very exciting
and have eaten practically every
kind of shellfish there is plus
salmon and sole and we'd like to
hve here forever if we can.
We are living in the old
""Crosby's Sea Haus" as it is called
by our landlady, Mrs. Greet• It is
a big place and fits our family
well, and we're new res;dents on
this side of the canal.
It seems somebody disgusted
with the high cost of groceries
these days took it upon
themselves to walk away with
Mac and Todd Coldiron's pet
ducks. They can be returned to
the hou~,e ~side the Masonic
Temple any time.
Stan Bali's sister, Mary
LaPorta of Summers Point, New
Jersey, left recently after a lovely
stay of three months with the
family. She would like to make
this her home too, someday•
Betty and John Matson are
busy building their new home
right close to their present one.
They were hoping to get enough

finished on it so they could pack
up their trailer and go south for
the winter, but gas shortages the
way they are, they are having
second thoughts about the whole
thing. She and her sister, Virginia
Kovack, surprised the Auxiliary
members on last Wednesday and
baked some goodies and brough!
them along to help pack boxes for
service boys in our community.
They are both honorary members
of the club.
Newlyweds living on the
South Shore are Mr. and Mrs.
Dennis Bachel (the former Emily
Kisler). He works at Thriftway
and is the cute one with the
mustache.
Welcomed houseguest in the
Virginia Hogan home was her son
Mike, who also had his tonsils out
while here and recuperated soon
enough to celebrate his 21st
birthday a few days later. Happy
belated birthday, Mike. Jodi
Hagan Logan was a visitor for
several weeks, too, returning to
Vancouver, B. C. after the
holiday.
Mrs. Melvin Guy has been
with her mother in Seattle since
early November, when she was
informed her mother had a heart
attack. She is recuperating at
home now but must have
attentive care still.
Mrs. Freid Geiger had surgery
last week in Bremerton and we all
wish her a speedy recovery and
hope she gets home soon.
Bill and Kathy Landram have
been enjoying their retirement
and having a lot of fun lately with
trips to see their son, Drew,
playing college basketball, and a
short stay in California. Reno was
the city of excitement for Kathy
before that when she and a girl
friend traveled there for
relaxation.
"Max" Lomax has learned of
the death of his brother Everett
who resided in Wilsonville,
Nebraska.
Warren Johnson and Betty Jo
Foley flew to Fairview, Montana,
after the sad news of their father
passing away. Friends of all three
families offer their sincere
sympathy.
The Warren Johnsons just
moved into their newly-con-
structed home up near the high
school. It must be beautiful, from
all we've heard about it, and
roomy for a family with four
boys and a girl.

Congratulations to Terri
Harmon placing in the winners'
circle in her first swimming meet.
Terri is the 1 l-year-old daughter
of Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Harmon of
' Tiger Lake. While she has done
some swimming at the family
quarters, she entered as a beginner
in the swimming ranks of the
Bremerton YMCA. It can be
difficult• to be the lone member
from out this way in trying out
for a team, but Terri plunged
right in and made the C team for
competitive action.
The meet was held at Highiine
Community College December I.
"[here were 23 girls in the ll-12
age group teams representing
Seattle, Port Angeles and
Bremerton. One girl swam in each
of the 8 lanes per heat, with the
fastest ending in the finals.
In this Terri placed 3rd in the
50-yd. freestyle with a time of 36
seconds; 4th place in the 100-yd.
freestyle with the time of 1.27
minutes; and 4th in the 50-yd.
backstroke in 45 seconds.
The crunch of fenders has
become a familiar one for Ms.
Melissa Thompson. Flang in there,
Baby, things are bound to get
better. There are drivers left in
this world who stay in their own
traffic lane and avoid crossing the
center line.
Another square was added to
our security blanket after that fire
last Monday evening at the Youth
Camp. The buildings saved from
destruction by fire during the loss
of the two dormitories brings our
appreciative thoughts to the quick
response that was made by the
volunteers with the Belfair and
Bear Creek Fire trucks. It was
done so quickly, many of us
didn't know it had all happened
until the next day.
Happy birthday wishes for
the planned switching, l didn't see
the printed notice, and welcome
others to the clan missing the
early cup of coffee or having a
soggy cake. As I had another
package of cake mix, all l really
lost was my good nature.
PUD No. 3 planned the
outage to last for one hour, but it
was actually only 45 long minutes
by the non-electric clock. Their
need was to switch over to
energize the new section of
underground feeder that bypasses
Belfair and cuts across the Union
River to the North Shore roads.
During the switching they also
removed some of the
non-essentials and did some work
on the poles.
There may be another outage
in the near future for removal of
conductors from the junction
back to Belfair. They will try to
have this information in time for
the HH, and plan to use all
sources of news media to let us
know should they once again run
into the deadline situation.
My special thank you to PUD
No. 3 for calling directly with this
information.
