le latest reports on the building
FIousing permits and sales down
ty officials reported the issuance of
42 permits tbr homes last month as
compared to 58 in November 2006.
The dollar amount of last month's
permits was about $5.6 million, a
decrease of 33 percent from the ap-
proximately $8.3 million in permits
issued in November of last year.
Fees and taxes associated with
the building and selling of homes
generate revenue to Mason County
and the City of Shelton. The county's
share of real-estate excise taxes ex-
ploded from $454,613 in 2000 to $2
million in 2006 as real-estate sales
and values skyrocketed in the first
several years of the current mille-
nium. But those taxes have plum-
meted as local sales dropped off in
the Shelton area but outside the city
limits and estimated to be worth
$522,428. That compares to an esti-
mated worth of $313,267.30 fbr the
most expensive home permitted in
November of last year, also in the
Shelton area but outside the city lim-
its. A four-plex in Allyn estimated to
be worth $662,266.10 was the most
expensive residential project per-
mitted last month, or $1.67,567 per
home. However, the average price of
all the homes permitted last month
was $132,469, which is down 7.8 per-
cent from the average of $143,781
for homes permitted in November
of last year. This reverses a recent
trend, which has indicated fewer
permits overall but an increase in
eslling of residential real estate 2007. the priciest ones.
