These kids have a
heart for jumping
By KAREN EVERETT
Keeping hearts healthy has
been an emphasis in the physi-
cal education classes at Pioneer
School. Last week the students
participated in "Jump Rope for
Heart" to raise money for the
American Heart Association.
This is an annual event at
the school which is organized by
Pat Peters, the primary school's
physical education teacher. She
is assisted by Tonya Youngquist,
physical education teacher for the
intermediate and middle-school
students.
After practicing rope jumping
['or several weeks, the students
held the tbnd-raising event after
school with the help of staff mem-
bers, the Associated Student Body
and parent volunteers. The stu-
dents will be contributing close to
$1,200 to tho American Heart As-
sociation.
A third-grade student, A|iyho
Climbers host
wrestling meet
Broumley raised the most money
for the event and second-grade
students Braden Bursch and Cody
Jones came in second and third
place in fund-raising.
In other news, the Pioneer staff
is holding the 27th annual Christ-
mas Giving Project and close to 70
families will be helped this year.
There is a food drive in progress in
both school buildings that will run
through December 18.
In addition there is a Giving
Tree in the lobby of each school
where community members can
donate money to be used to give
gifts to the children. Any ques-
tions regarding this project may
be directed to Kim Auseth of the
Christmas Giving Committee at
427-2737.
