cuts hole in home officers who died Accident blocks
A burglar found an unusual way to
break into an Island Lake home last
week.
An Island Lake resident came home
Dec. 4 to find a hole had been Cut in
the house, in the 1800 block of E. Is-
land Lake Drive. Electronics, jewelry
and an iPad were stolen.
Deputies responded and found foot-
prints leading away from the house
into a wooded area.
Officers can "ping" a device like a
phone or tablet, Chief Deputy Dean
Byrd said, by sending out a signal to
the device.
When the signal comes back, they
can get a general location.
After pinging the iPad, officers lo-
cated two suspects. One ran away
immediately, and another was ques-
tioned but not detained.
It was not immediately clear what
the burglar or burglars used to cut
through the home's exterior.
The case is under investigation.

vidual law enforcement agencies in
Washington.
This year's patrol is dedicated to
Washington law enforcement officers
who have died on the job.
The emphasis patrols are intended
to remove impaired drivers from roads.
Most deaths in vehicle crashes are
caused by impairment from drugs or
alcohol, according to the Mason Coun-
ty DUIJTraffic Safety Task Force.
