SHS mat debut proves auspicious
The Highclimber wrestlers
made a most auspicious entry
into tire Black ttills League fray
last week, knocking off
de fending league runnerup
Centralia 48-15 Thursday on the
Tigers' own mats.
Head Coach Dick Wentz got
victorious performances in all
but three of the 13 weight
classes - and those three were
hardly "gimme's."
The first at 108, feature.d the
state's defending number-two
wrestler at that weight, Tiger ace
Jay Brown. Shelton's Mark
Taylor, a veteran senior, gave
Brown a real battle before
bowing 4-8 in a fine match.
Centralia's only, other wins
were at 168, where veteran
Stuart Wilson did so only with a
late-match pin, and in the
heavyweight matcllup, where
Climber freshman Duane Naull
gained some valuable experience
from Tiger vet Mike Mcdrzycki
before going down by pin.
The Climbers' high points
were many. Two-time state
competitor Jerry Newcomb, for
instance, won handily al 115,
turning back a tenacious Randy
Sexsmith 1 I-6.
Pins were registered by
Climbers Tad Rutherford, Rusty
Haskell, John I)anicl, Mike
Buechcl and Brad Dunbal.
The Climber jayvees didn't
fare so well, though. The host
team sent them home 2148
losers.
Next action for Sheiton is
this evening at Yelm. The
Climbers return home next
Monday to host the Elma Eagles.

Cougs
The Climber sophomores
jumped out to a I-0 season
record Friday, downing the
visiting Central Kitsap Cougars
5145 in the middle school gym.
Coach Brian Brickert had
high praise for several of his
young cagers, among them
guards Kent Knight, Jeff Smith,
Mike Krumpols and Darrell
Damron, who kept up an
unrelenting press.
He also singled out the inside
play of Don Coker, Mike Martin
and Joe Nelson.
Shelton led by 12 at the half"
and maintained that margin until
late in the game, when Brickert
started wholesale substitution.
Next action for the Climber
sophs is tomorrow night's
rematch with the Cougs at
Central Kitsap. Next Tuesday
they take on Hoquiam here.

Give your little trucker
his own rig foronly
At over two feet long, this realistic toy replica of a big 18 wheel
NAPA tractor/trailer rig will make a hit under your tree
on Christmas morning. It's a $17.99 value, but right now you
can pick it up at your local NAPA store for only $11.95.
This NAPA over-the-road replica is built of sturdy steel and
is equipped with a sleeper cx)mpartment, simulated chrome
horns, lights and exhaust stack. It even features simulated C-B
antennas and a roll-up rear d(x)r. Plus, its hemmed afety-play
edges and non-toxic finish make it an ideal gift.
hnagine the kx)k on your little trucker's face when you give
him his own rig. And at just $11.95, it should make a lot of
parents happy, too.
