ESCROW
One word used frequently
in real estate matters but not
too well understood by the
layman is the word
"ESCROW."
This word normally pops
its head with regard to
"deposit" or "earnest money"
paid at time of signing a
purchase and sales agreement.
This deposit is held in
"escrow" or a "trustee"
accouqt until the closing. The
word "ESCROW" may occur
again at the culmination of
the sale of a home if any of
the terms of the purchase and
sales agreement are
incomplete. This sum of
money is placed in the hands
of an impartial party (usually
an escrow office or the bank)
iii
by one party of the
transaction and is not released
to the other party until he
meets specific conditions.
For example, if there is
painting or landscaping to be
completed at the time of the
closing, the money for this
work can be held in escrow
until it is completed. In this
way, the passing of title will
not be held up until the job is
completed, yet both parties
are protected.
If there is anything we can
do to help you in the field of
real estate please phone or

Test fabric
before using
stain remover
If you use a stain remover -
ammonia or alcohol for example
- test it on a part of the fabric
that doesn't show. Also, if you
use one of these products you
should protect the working
surface - the floor or kitchen
counter top. *:'
One practical way to do this
is to place a heavy glass pie plate
upside down under the stained
area you're going to work on.
CAROL SMETZLER,
serving her second term as
PTA president, is the
producer of the Bordeaux
PTA Christmas program to
be presented next Thursday•

Valuable papers damaged?
Washington State University
and the U.S. Department of
Agriculture have cooperated to
supply the following information
on the replacement of valuable
papers that have been lost or
damaged:
Lost or damaged valuable
papers can usually be replaced.
However, you'll save a great deal
of time if you know the right
office to contact.
For instance, contact the
county official involved to
replace papers which originated
at the county courthouse. The
treasurer can help you with
marriage papers, car registrations
and tax receipts. Birth and death
papers, car titles, deeds and
mortgages are handled at the
register of deed's office; divorce
papers are at the clerk of court's
office.
If you are no longer living in
the county where the papers
were issued, you'll have to
contact the original county, not
the one in which you are now.
Your family insurance agent"
can replace your insurance
policies whenever it's necessary.
Your bank and/or savings and
loan office can reconstruct a
savings account book and replace
certificates of deposit.
To replace savings bonds,
you'll need a record of the
inscription amount and the serial
number. Your bank can help, or
write to the Bureau of Public
Department, Division of Loans
and Currency, 536 South Clark,
Chicago, Illinois 60605. They
will also help replace registered
coupon bonds.
Your social security card can
be reissued if you get in touch
with the nearest division office.
They'll need to know your
name, address, date of birth,
telephone number, and if
possible, your social security
number. If you know that
number, you can get a new card
in five days; if not, it takes
about four weeks.
