BELFAIR -- A group of citi-
zens interested in establishing a
library in Belfair met last Thurs-
da.y afternoon with Alfred Kraig
at the Belfair TV building owned
by Gordon McKnight. Mrs. Me-
Knight acted as chairman and the
group viewed the space in the
rear of the building which has
been offered by the McKnight's
as a possible location for the lib-
rary.
The books previously stored in
the tear of the Drugstore have
been removed and the Bookmobile
now comes to Belfair every other
Friday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
as well as making their usual
runs. There is also a visit of the
Children's Bookmobile to the ele-
~mentary buildings, on a regular
:basis. Kraig also stated that if
i there is sufficient interest demon-
strated the Bookmobile could es-
tablish an evening schedule. How-
ever, if there is sufficient inter-
est. the Regional Library will stock
books again in Belfair under cer-
tain conditions.
One of these is an acceptable lo-
ce~tion with enough space with
one person willing to be responsi-
ble for the operation of the lib-
rary. Volunteers are also necessary
and will be trained, but Kraig
stressed the necessity of having
one person solely responsible, al-
though he or she need not neces-
sarily be present constantly. One
of the problems is money to pay
rent, lights and heat. There is
no possibility of voting millage as
two mills are all a library district
may legally raise and Lhis is al-
ready being levied for the Thurston-
Mason Library. The amount nec-
essary will have to be raised lo-
cally and Kraig advised that
enough for at least six-months ex-
penses should be on hand before
trying to establish the library.
He suggested that a Friends of
a Library committee be organized
with officers elected. The group
set Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. for a public
meeting for those interested in
establishing such a committee.
Place of the meeting will be
announced later. In addition to
books stocked by the Regional
Library, books could be purchased
and stocked and one of the ideas
mentioned by members of the
group was purchase of reference
books which might be of help to
local students for extra l~eading or
study.
THE EVERGREEN Garden club
will meet today at the home of
May Henningsen at 10:30 p.m.

the Hillhaven Nursing Home. The~
