success. County Chairman Gus
Hoag reported contributions
totaling more than $2,500, and
although the number of walkers
was less than in years past, the
quality of individual pledges was
considerably higher.
The volunteer walkers left
Evergreen School at 9:30 a.m. in
28 degree weather. All had
completed the 15 mile course by
mid-afternoon. Along the route,
walkers were supplied free coffee
and hot chocolate by Tozier's
Eats and Treats. The tired hikers
were served hamburgers and tacos
at the Shelton High School
Cafeteria by volunteers of the
Beta Zeta Chapter of Epsilon
Sigma Alpha Sorority. The ladies
worked under the supervision of
Mrs. Floda Schab, supervisor of
the school's cafeteria. Free soft
drinks were furnished by Safeway
stores.
"It is gratifying," Hoag said,
"to know that our citizens have
responded so wholeheartedly to
this event." In addition to
applauding public support of the
drive, Hoag extended thanks to
Jerry Swartos, recruitment
chairman; Les Rogers, route
committee chairman; Timber
Runners 4-Wheel Drive Club;
checkpoint committee, and the
local newspaper and radio station
for their help and cooperation
during the hike.
Atomic reality
Opinion says hot and cold, but
the reality is atoms and empty
space. (In reality there is nothing
but atoms and space.)
Democritus
The meetings of the Mason
County Bicentennial committee,
which are held from 5-6 p.m. each
Monday, have been cancelled
until after the first of the year.
The committee voted Monday
night not to have meetings the
next two weeks because of the
holidays.
The next meeting will be at 5
p.m. January 5 at the Senior
Center.
