0 'eJMIJ'O 000000000 O 0 Q O 0 re By Leo & Margaret Livingston -- CR 5-6421 Do you ever wonder how much it rains on the North Shore? Weather maps tell us it rains more on the North Shore than on the South Shore, It rains even less in Allyn. Seattle rainfall is slightly more than half of the rainfall here. The North Shore is no banana belt. Thankfully, here the rain is clean. It lacks the dissolved and corrosive acids found in the Tacoma rain. One of the amateur weather-watchers on the North Shore is B. W. Waite. By January he will have three full years of rainfall records compiled at his station about six miles southwest of Belfair. This year he recorded only .1 9 inches of rain in July followed by the record-breaking 5.54 inches in August. Our mid-summer season was only six weeks long at best before the dam broke. September established a record in the other direction. The total rainfall was 0.00 inches. It was the most pleasant Indian summer ever experienced in these parts. It was the driest September in Western Washington. Some people even went swimming. In October the heavenly floodgates opened again to discharge 13.77 inches of rain. This was about 14 times more rain than we had in October, 1974. This was followed up by 1.80 inches of rain in November. December started out with almost four inches of rain in the first three days. If everything comes down as expected, we'll wind up the year with a new short-term record of 70 or more inches of rain on the North Shore. We will ask Mr. Waite for a year-end report. Precipitation in the form of snow complicated Friday evening. Irene Davis and I (Margaret) braved the weather to attend a Hood Canal Environmental Council meeting in Bremerton. Because of worsening conditions the meeting adjourned early• The scheduled program on the Forest Practices Act was postponed to the January meeting. (Anyone welcome, January 9, 7:30 p.m., Physicians Service Building, Bremerton). Because of studded NOTICE The Allyn Port District announces a change of its regular meeting time from the first Friday of each month at the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Allyn firehall. Effective January 7, 1976, Ellen Palmer Clerk of the Board tires, we made it back home without a skid though others were not so fortunate. It is difficult to appreciate the pure beauty of a snowy landscape when driving a car through it. We think that snow should fall only on weekends when people could stay home and appreciate it. Since it's hard to make bargains with the weather, we think that the authorities could declare holiday weekends whenever it snows - something on the order as changing holidays to appropriate Mondays. In areas of little snowfall it would be a great saving in life and limb and adults would recapture their childhood love for the chilly white stuff. Our last two calico mousetraps have left us to become caretakers of a barn near Puyallup. AI and Edith Thomas, North Shore, picked up the kittens and took them to their daughter and son-in-law, Jerry and Sue Buck, who are the owners of Wildwood Acres Quarterhorse Ranch. The kittens, now christened Puss and Boots, are doing well in their new position. The pink bundle that arrived for Mary and Bill Landram at Beard's Cove Nov. 23 was expected by the prospective father to be a blue bundle. Little Angela Marie has been accepted with love and joy by all concerned. Paternal grandmother, Kathy Landram, is especially pleased. With six sons, a granddaughter is a great satisfaction. Louis and Erma Curl, long-time North Shore residents, have bought and are operating Industrial Marine Supply Co., 306 E. 26th, Tacoma. ACCIDENT REPORTED Jean Cann, 47, of Shelton was uninjured when his 1968 Chev 4-door, southbound on Highway 3 near the overpass south of Belfair, left the roadway to the right on a left-hand curve and struck several small trees. The accident occurred Dec. 7 about 8:25 p.m. Funeral services for James W. Sullivan, 65, of South Shore were held last Friday afternoon at the Manette Community Church. Mr. Sullivan, a Bremerton business leader who was active in civic affairs in Bremerton, died suddenly at his home December 8. He was president of Bremerton Concrete Co. at the time of his death. Born May 10, 1910, in San Francisco, he moved to Brcmerton as a small child and attended Bremerton schools, graduating from Union High School in 1928. He attended Heald Engineering College in San Francisco, graduating in 1932. He went to work Jar Bremerton Concrete in 1936 as foreman and became manager in the mid-1940's. In the late 1940's he purchased an interest in the firm and became its president in the early 1950's. Sullivan was well-known in the area for his activities in singing and was choir director at both First Baptist Church of Bremerton and Charleston Baptist Church. He organized the Olympic Singers, a men's singing group, and later organized and became the first president of the Olympian Singers. He became widely known in musical circles for his choral expertise. Mr. Sullivan was active in Bremerton Rotary Club, serving as president from 1956-1957. He was also past state president of Concrete Products Association, a member of Bremerton Elks and served 12 years on the Bremerton Planning Commission. He served several years on the Kitsap Physicians Service board and the Washington Physicians Service hoard. Surviving are his wife, Helen of the family home; two sons, Michael J.
