The Shelton boys' bas-
ketball team began play
in the 3A Narrows League
against a difficult opponent
last week.
The Highclimbers' league
season opened with a 71-36
loss at Wilson on Dec. 12.
"We had 34 turnovers
against their pressure de-
fense," head coach Del
Sandberg said. "We didn't
take care of the ball."
He said Wilson is a good
team and its extra play-
ers performed well against
Shelton in the fourth quar-
ter.
Senior wing Joshua
Craig led the Highclimb-
ers with nine points. Junior
guard Colton Hubble, senior
guard Dakota Andrews and
senior wing Wes Harrison
scored six points each.
Sandberg said he expects
future league games to be
difficult as well.
"All
the other
teams in
the league
are going
to be very
tough,"

ing."
He said there were times
when Shelton looked OK
against Wilson's press, but
added that the Highclimb-
ers need to get better.
The Highclimbers
bounced back from the loss
to come out fighting against
South Kitsap on Friday:
Though Shelton lost 47-
35, Sandberg said it was the
team's best game of the year
so far.
"The first half, we took
care of the ball and didn't
turn it over," he said. "We
handled the pressure."
Hubble said the team
played with intensity in the
first half.
At half time, Shelton
trailed South Kitsap 21-
14. The gap widened in the
third quarter, when South
Kitsap outscored Shelton
22-8.
"We have had trouble in
the third quarter this year,"
Sandberg said. "We're try-
ing to find an answer for
that. They got easy shots
in the third quarter and we
couldn't match their inten-
sity."
Hubble said the High-
climbers came out of the
locker room after halftime
and played sluggish.
"We wanted the win
more than anything, but felt
a little worn," he said.
In the fourth, Shelton
took on the task of digging
out of a 43-22 hole.

Ten years ago, Dakota Andrews
began playing basketball and never
stopped.
The Shelton High School senior,
a 6-foot guard for the Highclimb-
ers, said his father entered him into
tournaments as a child and he's been
playing basketball ever since.
"I love playing
with my teammates
and I just love the
game," Andrews
said. "It keeps me
entertained. I love
the adrenaline it
gives you, the but-
terflies before the
game. I like the in-
Dakota tensity level."
Andrews Andrews said
he plays basketball
year-round.
"I have recreation teams I play
with most of the time," he said.
Andrews said he's hoping to play
at the college level. Though the Uni-
versity of Washington is his dream
school, Andrews said he wouldn't
mind going to a smaller school.
"I think I'd have to put in a lot of
work to get (to UW), but I have other
options," he said. "I'm pretty open-
minded and wouldn't mind going to
another school."
Although he has not chosen a
major yet, Andrews said he'd like to
