If it can be nurtured, guided, and developed through the formative years, the leadership of the future will show constructive imagination in solving many of the problems yet to come. The staff at Mt. View School uses many avenues to encourage creativity. Art, music, drama, poetry and stories are media that are used as tools in the area of creativity. The following selections are a few samples of poetry and prose that show the beautiful and clever imagination which can be drawn from the minds of young children. Weather Lets not fret, because November's wet. December's snow, All aglow, Turns to slush, I bet. --Chris Frankj 6th grade The Born Flyer One day while walking around, So normal with feet on the ground, I all of a sudden began to fly- Way up toward the big blue sky, And came down so gently without a sound. --Becky Rice, 6th grade The Little Man From Mars A little green man from Mars, Came to visit from beyond the stars. He likes our cars, And our candy bars, But our cigarettes left awful scars. --Mke Ttmmas, 6th grade The Unhappy Cloud Once there was an unhappy cloud. He didn't like being a cloud. One day he said to himself, **T think I'll change into a plane," but he couldn't fly. He tried being a squirrel, but he couldn't climb trees. He even tried being the earth, but he couldn't turn. So he changed back to a cloud and began to cry. Then he looked down and saw all the green trees and grass and the lovely country. He thought that if he just made things green it would be good enough. So he was very happy in the end. - The Telephone The telephone was such a creative invention, Whenever it rings it causes attention. It gives you a warning by a ring, ring, ring, It is used quite often by a King that can sing. When it rings at our house it causes a commotion, All our family goes into motion. It lets you talk to people you know, Or even Sir Winston from Coco-M•. The telephone directory lists names in alphabetical order-- Here is a man by the name of Mr. Order. They come in all colors, sizes and shapes, They blend in with my mother's drapes. The phone at our house is white, When everyone wants to use it, oh what a fight! C It sits on the counter next to our table, And the wiring is connected to a long, long cable. S % The cable is connected to a pole, Which is stuck in the ground in a hole. • • The cables destination is the, Bell Telephone Company. --Belnda Rae, 6th grade (Please turn to Page 17) Eells and Valley Ap lian,00 U ip e oe UO Drawn by Rhon TwidweL 0 5th Grade, Bordeaux School U Shelton Printnng RUS$ & ELLEN 8TUCK Page 16 - Shelton-Mason County Journal - Thursday, December 21 967 Sheiton Furnace Co.
