At the end of Friday night's game,
the Central Kitsap Cougars were vic-
torious once again in the Shelton Mini-
Dome. The Cougars beat the Climbers
52-44, and the Shelton players walked
into the locker room with their heads
down. But head coach Aaron Leth
looked at the big picture.
He wasn't happy with a loss, but he
was proud of the team's gusto.
"Coming off last year, where we won
three games, we're 4-4 right now with
a tough loss tonight," Leth said. "But
we have the confidence and that's what
these girls need."
Friday night's efforts proved this
season the Highclimbers are in it for
the long haul.
In the opening minutes of the game,
the two 3A Narrows League teams bat-
tied. The Cougars went to the line after
an early foul by Shelton senior Aurora
Gouley. After Central Kitsap sopho-
more Ellie Potts nailed her two shots,
the Cougars went to work.
Central Kitsap out matched Shelten
in height and speed, but the Climbers
didn't just roll over. The Highclimbers
were led by freshman Timber Ware, who
has exploded on the Narrows League
scene this year and dropped 10 points
in the first half. As the Cougars shots
dropped, the Climbers sank theirs.
After Ware sunk a jump shot with
under two minutes to go, Shelton took
its first lead of the night.
"Before this game, she was averag-
ing about 18 points a game," Leth said.
"I'm getting calls from coaches like
the Lincoln coach and even the Wilson
coach saying 'Hey, who's this fresh-
man? What's going on?' The secret is
out there. It's the real deal."
The game was tied four more times

the game, the Climbers scored 16 points.
Central Kitsap coach Keri Collett
was impressed with Shelton's perfor-
mance.
"Shelton's a good team and in a cou-
ple of years they're going to be a really
good team," Collett said. "It was fun
to play against them and it shows us
what we need to work on as well."
usually do. So I thought we did good
too. We helped each other a lot."
Last year in the two games against
Central Kitsap, the Climbers were out-
scored a combined 122-43.
One of the biggest reasons the team
clicked Friday night was because of
team unity.
"We're a better team and we have
a better bond," Johnson said. "We just
have a way with each other and we're
a good team. Especially when we're all
on the same page, nothing can stop us."
