Not to ss to fl il Shelton High School's boys' swimming team sank to its second BHL loss last Wednesday, succumbing to a strong North Thurston team 61-23 in the Rams' older-style pool. "it definitely wasn't an artistic performance on our part," said a rather glum Coach Doug Hanna after the thrashing. "It was probably the worst showing by a Climber team in a long time." Hanna said he wasn't making excuses, but some of his Climbers had troubles negotiating the North Thurston pool, which has one deep end rather than the two shallow ends of most of the newer pooh. "'We had a problem with our flip turns because of the difference in depth perception," he said, "and that's something we definitely need to work on." Chris Jackson suffered a lacerated heel on one such misjudged flip turn. "He could very easily have severed an Achilles' tendon," said Hanna, hastening to add that the injury proved relatively minor. Jackson and junipr Mike Pavel set Climber records in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley, respectively, Jackson with a third-place 5:24.7 CLIMBER Mike Dale momentarily forgets about form during a false start in a recent league swimming meet in the Minidome, while mom and dad (Carol and Leroy Dale, right) and sister Debbie look on, tense with excitement. Christensen scored 37 of Nye's 56 points, but the Correction Center team pooled its efforts to take a two-point victory and send Christensen and company to their fourth straight loss. Meanwhile, league-leading OK Roofers toppled Arnold and Smith 59-47 and undefeated Lumbermen's coasted past ITT-Rayonier 71-50. Lefty Leroy Dale was the final of several heroes for the Little Climbers, popping in a southpaw side-shot to win the game in the "sudden death" overtime period. It was a thrill-packed contest most of the way with the only sizeable margin coming as Shelton built up a 27-21 edge at the end of the third period and moved it to 29-21 early in the fourth period. Dan Young and Dale accounted for 29 of the 37 Shelton points between them, the former getting 14 and the latter 15.
