A Christmas Message Christmas is the birth of Jesus By FATHER MICHAEL FEENEY Pastor, St. Edward Church Christmas is the Feast of Joy. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who is Son of God and Redeemer of man. Redemption, salvation, God's love, and His company, and the company of one another for all eternity is the whole meaning of life. God created men to be His friends and companions in this life and for eternity. He has a plan, a program by which He invites us and draws us to Him and that plan is Jesus Christ His Son, who is our Lord and our Savior. Further, He has only one plan, and that is Jesus Christ, and there is no other, and Christians believe that all men who are saved will be saved through the passion and death of Jesus Christ, through the sacrificial offering by which He gave Himself for us. Jesus invites us to imitate Him, to follow Him, to accept His invitation to unity with him, and all those who choose Him as leader. We find Jesus constantly in one another, members of the body of Christ, members of His church, citizens of the kingdom of heaven. We find Jesus also in the inspired and the inspiring words of the Holy Scriptures - the letters to us of which He is the author. God inspired those who wrote these books in such a way that it is He who is truly the author. They wrote the message that He would have us receive, and He inspires us when we read and hear to understand His message - the message of salvation, the Gospel, the Good News. We meet Jesus most especially in the Holy Communion, the body and blood of Christ, the bread of everlasting life, the sacrament which unites us as Christians. If there is anything above others that describes us as Christians, it is that we are the people who feed upon the body and blood of Christ. Holy Communion is that bread of Christian unity. And so we celebrate Christmas; we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who is Lord and Savior. In celebrating Christmas, we celebrate also the coming of Jesus in glory, when He will return on the last day to gather His people together and lead us to the heavenly Father and life everlasting. Are we ready to meet Him? Are we ready to meet Him as the Babe in Bethlehem? Every year we celebrate this great event once more - make it present. Each year this feast of Christmas comes to be more and more important to us as we grow in our love and friendship for Christ and for one another. May we continue to grow in that love and be ready to greet Him when He comes for that last time to welcome us and accompany us to the Father. Then we shall truly celebrate Christmas for all eternity.
