NM had a hard time sinking the ball, taking 14 of 61 shots (23%) from the floor and connecting 17 of 31 freethrows (55%). Turnovers also hampered NM from gaining ground as they totaled 25. "If we can cut down on turnovers I think we'll be all right," commented Coach Lance Thurston. '`we're getting good shots, but we aren't hitting," he added. Castle Rock was in control at halftime 32-20. Tim Zech led North Mason with 14 points and Bulldogs met their first league encounter by entertaining Orting in Belfair. NM fell under the Cards' wing by a sound defeat, 85-44. Orting took control early and ran the ball for theft fifth straight win of the season. The Bulldogs had an early lead of 14-10 but quickly felt the jolt as the Cardinals ran up a 40-22 halftime advantage. "We tried to run with them and that was a mistake," admitted Coach Thurston. "We got behind and tried to press and we ended up giving them lay-ins. We didn't give up. We were just outmatched. The fact that we didn't give up is what pleases me." North Mason "round bailers" remain winless, but hopeful, thus fourth and third respectively. Vashon left its island to wrestle in Belfair Dec. 16 in the Bulldogs' first league encounter this year. NM grapplers dominated the winner's circle by defeating the Pirates 47-17. NM was powered to the final points with three pins and two forfeits in the higher weight classes. ''We actuagy won it in the higher division but a few of the kids did well down lower. Loren Chilton usually wrestles 122 but went up to 129 and won. Also John Moyer (158) did an outstanding job," reflected NM wrestling coach Ed Amick. North Mason 47, Vashon 17 101 -- Bruce Johnson (NM) dec.
