Houser expressed confidence that
the foundation will be able to
pull it off, making the point that
a number of people who worked
to restore the Dalby Waterwheel
are also working on the McReavy
House. "If anybody can do it they
can," Houser said.
The waterwheel was built in
1922 by Ed Dalby so his wife Eth-
el could have some electricity. In
his own time Mr. Dalby made a
name ibr himself as "Captain Bar-
nacle," the maritime editor for The
Seattle Post-Intelligencer. At the
same time the Dalbys and their
waterwheel found themselves
at close quarters with a group of
artists who congregrated in the
place called Union City that John
McReavy had platted in the 19th
Century.
Earlier this month, the wa-
terwheel became the 16th site in
Mason County to be listed on the
Washington Heritage Register of
historic places that have passed
