Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gastineau
Boehi-Gastineau wed
Miss Shirley Lorraine Boehi
and Michael Richard Gastineau
were married September 16 at
Burlingame Baptist Church in
Portland, Oregon with Pastor
Steve King officiating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Be•hi of
Portland and his parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Gerald Gastineau of
Port Orchard.
Mary Boehi, the bride's
sister, served as maid of honor,
and James Gastineau, the
groom's brother, served as the
best man.
The bride is a 1969 graduate
of Beaverton High School and a
1973 graduate of Seattle Pacific
University. She taught home
economics for five years at the
North Mason High School.
The groom is a 1967
graduate of South Kitsap High
School and a 1972 graduate of
the University of Washington. He
is the manager of the Belfair
Thriftway.
The couple is now residing
at LakeLand Village in Allyn.
Usually the Herald will not
run a wedding story at such a
late date; however, this just came
into our office and since Mike
and Shirley are so well known
we thought an exception to our
policy was in order.

00:ire code violations...
(Continued from page one.)
In 1955 the fire code
required corridors of one-hour
fire rating construction, "but
they were not built that way."
The Belfair Middle School,
high school and gym all were
built in violation of that
particular requirement.
"A lot of things were
allowed to go by the way side,"
he said. Many of the codes were
in existence, but "things weren't
checked as closely."
And who's to blame for this?
Jim Connolly, county planning
director and fire marshall, said
he didn't know who was at fault.
Tom Brace, director of the
state fire marshall's office, said
he didn't know either. "1 think
that's a good question," he said.
Brace did suggest, however,
that when the schools were
constructed they might have met
"As a general observation,"
he said, "building codes are
becoming more and more
restrictive as agencies try to
protect life and property."
Although the state, at one
time, was involved with plan
approval and on-site inspection
of schools, it hasn't had such a
program for a number of years,
he said.
This is about to change,
however. The state
superintendent of schools is
having a bill introduced into the
1979 legislature that will put the
responsibility of school
inspections back on the state fire
marshall's office, Brace said.
In 1975 that responsibility
was delegated to the county
and city governments.
If the bill passes, "We will go
back and inspect every
kindergarten through 12th grade
be surprised if their buildings are
not up to fire code.
"The assumption that you
meet all the requirements just
because you're open may not be
valid," he warned.
Paolino said that even though
the lack of one-hour fire rating
construction for the corridors in
some Belfair buildings is pretty
serious, there are ways to satisfy
the safety requirements without
tearing up the halls.
Doors in each classroom
leading outside would take care
of the fire code quite nicely, he
said.
There are also ways, not
mentioned in his letter, to
correct other violations as well,
he said, but "We would have to
take a look at each violation
individually."
And that is what Paolino
