The Climbers got the points when they needed them in the fourth quarter, as they scored more than they had in any other period. Cole and Martin made seven points apiece, Mike Bac had three and Neal White one. Shelton outscored the visitors 18-14 to win the game by five. The game was the Climbers' best defensive effort pointwise of the season. It was the first time they had held their opponents to under 50 points and it followed a game where they gave up 80 points to Centralia. Un In City Shelton's City League no longer has an undefeated team and this week the Correction Center took the top spot with a 3-1 record. WCC beat previously undefeated Jess Mobil by an 87-72 score last week and are on top of Jess and Gott Oil on the basis of more wins. In that game, Jess held an eight halftime lead, but WCC came back to win by 15. Donny Austin was the leading scorer in the game with 31 points. Terry Cotton added 20, Livona Smith and Harold Givens nine each, Randy Risley eight, Bill Rhodes six, and Aaron Marshall and Percy Brazier two apiece. Schmidt led Jess with 18 points. Landis added 16, Donaldson had 12, Robertson nine, Walker six, and Spilseth three. Gott Oil was victorious over ITT Rayonier, 70-52, as Gott won its second game of the season last week. Don Andrews led the winners with 25 points, and three team mates had ten each. Terry Gregg, Wayne Clary and Bill Bingham were those men. Tom Coleman added eight, Jim Willis five and Terry Corey two. The game was closely contested until the final quarter when a combination of accurate shooting by Andrews and Clary and frequent turnovers gave the game to Gott. It was 29-28 in Gott's favor at the half, and the lead was increased to 48-41 by the end of the third quarter. For the losers, Don Jorg had 15, Jerry Mallory 13, Ron Eltedge 12, Bill Anderson five, Wally Ewart four, Dick Antilla two and Guff Miller one. WCC slaughtered Bob's Tavern 97-59 on December 16. Terry Cotton and Aaron Marshall shared high point honors for the victors with 16 each. Bill Rhodes had 13, Livona Smith 12, Donny Austin and Randy Risley 1 l each. Percy Brazier eight, Craig Moeller and Bob Coleman four and Harold Givens two. Steve Cottrell had 23 for the losers.
